After 4 days of back-to-back training sessions in the previous week, I was hoping that a niggle in my groin region wasn’t the re-occurrence of an old injury I picked up back in October. Unfortunately my visit to the gym on Monday proved otherwise.
The pain was back in a big way and so on Wednesday I took a visit to the local Chiropractor, Body Consultancy.
Some initial investigations showed that the lower of my spine was slightly twisted and therefore a possible cause of the groin pains. This is because the nerves in the lower back then carry on into the leg, which may have resulted in my right leg supporting the rest of the body differently to how it should be.
With a possible cause established, work commenced on manipulating my spine back into shape and alleviating any pressure build-ups in other areas. What I hadn’t planned on doing was passing out and dropping into a cold sweat!
Clearly my body does not approve of experiencing new pains, as the actual treatment was relatively painless. Breaking my thumb playing cricket a few years back hurt much more!
They were certainly worried about me in the practice, as apparently I turned rather grey.
My second visit on Friday 4th went more smoothly. However, Mark (the Chiropractor) did say that it is possible that I’ve got a hernia 🙁
If a further 2 visits this week do not improve the situation, I’ve got to go and see the Bournemouth AFC physio for an ultrasound. Fingers crossed it is just a back issue.
And so, marathon training is now on hold until the groin calms down.
Good news this week – a further £20 was added to the total after my barber noticed my face in the paper before Xmas. Result.
Hopefully I can recommence training again next week in time for the Brighton Half Marathon. It might be wishful thinking…
