Hi Everyone,
I’m almost there after 15 weeks on my RealBuzz.com marathon training plan and really looking forward to the big day. It has been hard going with the back/groin injury I’ve had to endure, but worthwhile pushing through despite the costs involved with seeing injury specialists! I think I’ll be writing a special post next week dedicated to what it takes to run a marathon, perhaps when I announce the winner of my “Guess My Time” competition.
The past week’s training continued its wind-down in preparation for Marathon and was as follows:
- Tuesday (pm) – Cricket Nets for 1 hour. COMPLETED
- Wednesday – 35 Minutes Brisk. COMPLETED (on Thursday) 4.5 miles in 36 Minutes (12km / hour). 175 BPM
- Thursday – 45 minutes Steady. RESTED
- Friday/Saturday – 25 minutes Easy. RESTED
- Sunday – 50 minutes (below Marathon Pace). COMPLETED 6.72 miles (10.75km) in 64 minutes @ 6.3 MPH (10.08 KMPH). 169 BPM.
The run today was comfortable in pace. There was a little rubbing on the ball of my left foot, but I’m not too worried about that as it has been like that since I started! I will however need to make sure that I have a 6.30am breakfast on Sunday to avoid the stitches I’ve suffered when eating too close to running. I will also make sure I keep up with my clam exercises to strengthen the glutes and reduce the back/groin pains.
I’m feeling good for the big day and so with a sensible schedule for this week, I’m confident of putting in a decent time. My time predictions last week still stand.
Schedule for this week will be as follows:
- Tuesday (pm) – Cricket Nets for 1 hour.
- Thursday – 25 minutes easy.
- Sunday – THE 2011 LONDON MARATHON!!!
A quiet week on the training front so a perfect opportunity to work on my fundraising. I’ve got a long way to go, so don’t be surprised if you get a phone call from me this week if you’ve not already sponsored me!
Have a great week.
Ben
