Hello everyone,
3 down, 13 to go. This week was a little boring as I was resigned to the gym for 3 mid-week runs and missed Thursday due to a busy workload.
The long run today was outside; the weather was fantastic with wind and rain to contend with! As I passed through a car park and around 12 cyclists who had just finished a stretch on the Castleman Trailway, one of them said “you must be mad” to which I just laughed and carried on. Strange how a guy getting undressed in the p*****g rain on the back of a pickup truck can say I’m mad.
Anyway, enough of the chit-chat. Notable points of the training this week are:
- Steady treadmill run on Friday 14th for 50 minutes was carried out at 10.5KM per hour (4 hour marathon pace). This pace was a challenge indoors with air conditioning making breathing harder. Doing that for 26.2 miles would be tough (and mind-numbing) but I’m confident of getting the real marathon time below 4 hours.
- The long run today (Sunday 16th) lasted 2 hours and 13 minutes and I completed approx. 12.25 miles. It’s getting to the stage where I’ll need to take my camelbak (rucksack with water pouch and tube) as you start to struggle eating the Lucozade energy gel (which should be taken every 30 minutes) and the final quarter starts to take it’s toll.
Schedule for this week is as follows:
- Tuesday 18th – 45 minutes steady pace
- Wednesday 19th – 8 x 3 minute bursts with 3 minute rests in-between.
- Friday 21st – 60 minutes steady pace
- Sunday 23rd – 2H 25 minutes long, slow run (possibly with Camelbak).
I’ll aim to get some photos on next week’s blog post.
Enjoy your week.
Ben
